California Government Code §54972 is a California State Law that requires local legislative bodies to annually post a list of all their regular board, commission and committee appointments for the following year by December 31st. This promotes transparency and public awareness for scheduled openings and ensuring open selection processes for public service roles. 

California Government Code §54972 ensures that citizens are aware of opportunities to serve on local government bodies, encouraging wider participation and more representative decision-making.

Qualifications

Qualifying Board Members must be 18 years of age or older, registered voters in California and must reside in the District or own property in the District. Directors are appointed by the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors and serve a four year term. There are no limits on the number of terms. 

Board Members are expected to:

• Be interested in local conservation issues and willing to learn about them
• Understand the need for conservation of soil, water and other natural resources. 
• Attend montly Board meetings
• Participate in District policy and program development
• Provide financial guidance and oversight
• Provide guidance and direction to staff and maintain fair and equitable personnel policies.
• Complete ethics training (available online)
• Complete a Statement of Economic Interests (FPPC Form 700) upon assuming position, annually, and upon leaving position.
